1984 — Kentville, Nova Scotia
It was a fairly steady one for Kentville - no major storms, just the usual rhythm of seasons shifting from one to the next. Over the course of the year, 879.1 mm of rain fell, with August standing out as the wettest month at 143.8 mm. That same August day - August 6th - also brought the year’s hottest temperature: 32.5ºC.
Winter, on the other hand, had its own kind of intensity. The coldest day came on February 10th, when temperatures dropped to -23.0ºC. Snowfall throughout the year reached 209.0 cm, with most of it arriving in January and March. January collected 56.4 cm, while March added another 46.8 cm - much of it in smaller, spaced-out storms of 5 to 10 cm. The biggest single snowfall of the year came on March 9th, when 17 cm fell in one day.
When all was said and done, 1984 averaged a temperature of 7.8ºC - a calm, temperate year that I’ve represented with the fern colour in my palette.
